A life-long resident of Louisiana, Barbara Roberds specializes in black-and-white and hand painted fine art photographs that capture the essence of her unique home state. Her portraits of rural life, as well as her rustic custom frames, convey the spirit of the natural, uncomplicated life she experienced growing up on the banks of Louisiana's Lake St. John. An adulthood spent in the quaint neighborhoods of historic New Orleans is reflected in distinctive hand-colored images emphasizing the retro design of never-to-be-seen-again buildings scheduled for destruction or remodeling. A long-time, ongoing association with the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival's Fais Do Do Stage also allows Barbara to capture images of the musical talent characteristic of south Louisiana. Her CD cover images recently earned her a Louisiana Press Association Award, and her photographs have been published in Living Blues magazine, Gambit Weekly, and Offbeat. Using the traditional film emulsion process, Barbara's photographic images are processed onto archival fiber paper, and painted photographs are hand colored by the artist with light oils. Her custom frames are hand made from architectural materials salvaged from old New Orleans buildings and reflect the style and era of each photographic piece. Barbara exhibits at art shows and festivals throughout the South. Click on Schedule to find her next show. |
